S & M - ninth album metal band Metallica, recorded in 1999. The album is a recording of a concert performance of the group, together with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Title «S & M» means «Symphony and Metallica», but some fans of the group believe that the name of the album of the same name is associated with (S & M - Sado & Mazo) song of the band Thin Lizzy, creativity is strongly influenced by the group. The band played songs from all albums starting from Ride the Lightning and ending ReLoad, as well as two new songs - «Human» and «No Leaf Clover» and the song «The Ecstasy of Gold» - a cover version of Ennio Morricone.
Composer Michael Kamen was the conductor, and also wrote a lot of symphonic instruments.
During the concert, James Hetfield called the song «Of Wolf and Man» «Of Wolfgang and Man», that refers to Wolfgang Mozart.
