BBC Supernatural Science

1. Lake Monsters

Scotland’s Loch Ness Monster has eluded searchers for decades. Other reports of â€osea serpentsâ€? have come from lakes in Norway and the U.S. Do Jurassic beasts haunt these waters? Or have witnesses been fooled by optical illusions and hoaxes?
2. Open to Suggestion

The power of suggestion can be used to assist medical treatment, or to indoctrinate cult victims. This program examines the consequences of using – and abusing – this little-understood power.
3. Spontaneous Human Combustion

Can the human body just burst into flame? Bizarre deaths caused by spontaneous human combustion have been reported for more than a century. Recently, forensic scientists have begun to develop a compelling explanation for this phenomenon.
4. Electric Hands

Dowsing is one of the oldest sciences, used to locate everything from freshwater springs to missing persons. It is also part of the panoply of alternative therapies. Medical dowsers move their hands over patients to diagnose and even heal illnesses. Many doctors ridicule the practice. But there are those who believe â€otherapeutic touchâ€? has real benefits.
5. Previous Lives

Channelers and mediums claim the ability to communicate with the dead. Scientists remain skeptical. But some researchers have come across a baffling phenomenon: young children with extraordinary knowledge of people who died before they were even born.
6. Physical Feats

The body is capable of incredible feats, some of which defy explanation. How, for example, can Tibetan monks sleep outdoors in freezing temperatures? This program reveals what these feats tell us about the real limits of human anatomy and psychology.

BBC Building the Great Pyramid

For four thousand years men have marvelled at the Great Pyramid of Giza and asked two questions: how was it built and why?

To answer those questions we will travel back in time. By combining the latest archaeological research with the most up-to-date visual technology we can for the first time see the Pyramid through the eyes of the men who built it.

Not quite documentary, not quite drama, this reenactment of a fictional conscript’s life building the Great Pyramid of Giza is best described as docudrama. Omar Sharif voices the thoughts of the aged Nakht remembering the moment Egyptian soldiers drafted him into the king’s service.

The 57-minute film re-creates the boat trip up the Nile and his ascent through the ranks, from delivering water to helping haul 2.5-ton blocks up ramps for the king’s tomb. Interspersed are narrator Michael Pennington’s historical assertions, along with contrasting footage of what the pyramid looks like today.

BBC Attenborough Explores Our Fragile World

The United Kingdom offers unique insights into the effects of climate change on our planet. It has a long history of nature observations - particularly the timing of seasonal events such as flowering and bird nesting. So, with the UK as his platform, Sir David Attenborough takes a look at the effect of global warming, both local and global.

His journey begins in the Cairngorms, the last wilderness of the UK. Its snow-encrusted summit is a rare arctic environment, but a third of this habitat has melted away over the last 30 years. The loss of arctic habitat in Britain is mirrored on a grand scale at the North Pole where the polar bear is its most iconic casualty.

Global warming doesn't just affect air temperatures - it impacts on our oceans too. Sir David examines the plight of British sea bird colonies and how important they are on a global scale. In the Shetlands, the warming oceans have resulted in a collapse of the main food source for some marine birds.

However, while some animals lose out, others benefit. Insects such as the emperor dragonfly have extended their range northwards in Europe, while bird species like the great tits have changed their breeding times so that they synchronise with the earlier arrival of the insects.

BBC I Love The 80s Series [I LOVE 1984]

1984
BMX mania hit Britain in 1984, and it was the last year that the halfpenny coin and 1 note were in circulation in England.

It was a successful year for Brits in sport. At the Los Angeles Olympics Tessa Sanderson, Daley Thompson and Seb Coe were among the gold medallists. Torvill and Dean were also victorious, winning gold for ice dancing in the Sarajevo winter Olympics.

The country was shaken by extended nationwide miners strikes, protesting against poor pay offers and pit closure programmes. The country was also shocked by the scenes in famine-striken Ethiopia, provoking Band Aid and Red Cross appeals.

The Princess of Wales gave birth to her second son on 16th September. He was named Henry but is better known as Prince Harry.

BBC Iguanas Living like Dinosaurs 2005

Dinosaurs may be dead and gone, but can a living reptile now help uncover secrets of the dinosaurs’ lost world? Green iguanas, adorned with impressive spikes and claws, were once cast as dinosaurs in B movies. Although they are not directly descended from the dinosaurs, new research reveals that the social lives of these modern lizards may show us how the dinosaurs behaved. David Attenborough takes us deep into the jungles of Central America and reveals a chilling cast of prehistoric-looking reptiles locked into battles every bit as dramatic as those played out by the dinosaurs.

BBC From Crop to Shop

Our supermarket shelves groan with fresh food from around the world. Farmer Jimmy Doherty explores the global logistics that bring these crops to a shop near you. He meets the people who grow our food and make this global conveyor belt work. He uncovers the science and technology that keeps food fresh for weeks or months without decay. Jimmy asks why grow Scottish potatoes in the Egyptian desert? How can charcoal stop green beans from dehydration in Kenya? How does pineapple sliced and diced in Ghana stay fresh on the long journey from field to plate? Does it make any kind of sense to transport fresh fruit and vegetables for thousands of miles by air and by sea, just so we can eat our favourite foods all year long?

BBC The Truth about Food

BBC – The Truth about Food [Complete Set] (2007)
XviD | 640 x 352 | Duration: 49min | 700MB | RS.com

Forget the different headlines you read about the food you eat. Discovery Health and the BBC present a series of landmark scientific investigations that deliver astounding insights on how your diet directly affects your body and mind — and how you can use food to increase the quality of your daily life.

While its playful tone and stylish production offer pure entertainment, THE TRUTH ABOUT FOOD is based on hard science — original studies and tests designed specifically for the series. World-renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, best-selling author and Discovery Health’s Chief Medical Correspondent, Dr. Oz, leads audiences on a journey through more than 30 original, groundbreaking experiments that were captured on film from inception to implementation.

Discovery Health and the BBC worked with leading food scientists from around the world, including more than 50 nutritionists, doctors and experts from more than 20 universities, research centers and hospitals in the United Kingdom, the United States and Denmark. Researchers and scientists recruited more than 500 volunteers, many of whom participated in rigorous testing. To gain a better understanding of how food can impact the human body, these volunteers endured everything from exotic diets and changes in environmental conditions to the latest biomedical sensors and internal body scans.

Through it all, THE TRUTH ABOUT FOOD delivers some of the most compelling and groundbreaking nutritional and behavioral science available anywhere. Viewers will see convincing proof of the incredible and sometimes shocking effect of food on the inner workings of the body, from the immune system and appetite to the memory and libido.

01: How to Be Healthy
What we eat can change our lives. How to Be Healthy follows nine fast- food junkies to an enclosure at a British
zoo as they crunch their way through half a ton of raw fruits and vegetables in just 12 days. Join two truckers who
have to swallow an unusual pill to get their internal traffic jams moving. Learn how the bacteria in the gut also
enjoy our food, and how it can lead to windy side effects.

02: How to Be Sexy
This episode puts our volunteers’ bodies on the line to discover just what effect food can have on our sex lives.
Is the way to a person’s heart really through the stomach? Can fruit and vegetables boost sperm quality and quantity?
How might cheese help relieve the symptoms of PMS? And can you tell if a woman is attracted to you by the contents
of her dinner plate?

03: How to Feed Your Kids
In a warm-hearted look at children’s stubborn palates, this episode provides a guide on how to open kids’ minds and
mouths to new foods. How did young Isaac break his broccoli boycott? Also, viewers will discover whether or not watching
TV can trigger your child to put on pounds, and if sugar really makes kids hyperactive.

04: How to Be Slim
After trying every diet in the book, a family of dieters are about to give up until the latest nutritional science comes to their aid.
Sit back as THE TRUTH ABOUT FOOD reveals the foods that keep you feeling fuller for longer, how dairy products may hold the secret
to reducing calorie absorption, and whether or not the speed of our metabolism really determines how fat we are.

05: How to Stay Young and Beautiful

In tonight’s fact-filled feast, discover how the mere color of some foods can fight the aging process. How to Stay Young and Beautiful
reveals how eating tomatoes can help stop the progression of wrinkles, and looks at whether or not a stringent detox diet really does work.
Our scientists also try to figure out if drinking two liters of water a day can give you younger, healthier-looking skin.

06: How to Be the Best
In this episode, a group of female vegetarian martial arts experts go back to eating meat to see if it makes them fitter and stronger.
Also, get set to test whether the omega-3 in oily fish can give stressed-out cabbies a less taxing day, and whether or not firefighters
in Montana are better placed to lick the flames after licking their lips over snacks rather than the traditional three meals a day.
