This World - The Mormon Candidate

John Sweeney investigates the beliefs of Mitt Romney, the man most likely to take
on Barack Obama later this year, and asks whether America is ready for a Mormon
president.

Sweeney travels to Utah to examine the appeal of the world's fastest growing
religion, which has an estimated 14 million members.

He meets the stars of the expensive 'I'm A Mormon' ad campaign, who tell him of
their dedication to family and charity; polygamists who follow an old Mormon
tradition which the official Church has turned its back on and missionaries who
set out to recruit new members around the world, just like Romney did in the
1960s.

Sweeney also finds ex-members who claim that they are cut off from their families
and who accuse Mormonism of being a cult and explores the faith with a Mormon
Apostle.

The Mormon Church sees an opportunity in Mitt Romney's run for the White House
and is spending millions on an advertising campaign called I Am a Mormon. Mitt
Romney himself very rarely utters those words, arguably because he knows his
Mormonism could cost him votes.

In America people don't criticise each other's religion, but that doesn't mean
the voters don't hold it against them. According to a poll*, one in four
Americans has said they would be less likely to vote for a Mormon. And as Sweeney
follows the campaign trail he finds a Republican party dominated by white
evangelicals who can't stand Mitt Romney.

Part 1: City Of Dreams
In the first of this three-part series on Paris, presenter and art historian Sandrine Voillet reveals how Paris battled through turmoil and trauma to become the city of dreams. From the Louvre to a magical fairy tale park which is one of Paris's best kept secrets Sandrine uncovers a Paris very rarely explored. She delves deep into the subterranean labyrinth of the city sewers, heads for a very special restaurant famed for its discreet boudoir lounges and meets one of France's great photographers, Willy Ronis. She also reveals why two of Paris's most photographed landmarks, the Basilica of Sacr? Coeur and the Eiffel Tower, were hated when they were first built, but went on to become the great icons of the most beautiful city in the world.


Part 2: Blood and Chocolate
In this week's programme, presenter and art historian Sandrine Voillet, traces the growth of Paris from its origins on a small island in the middle of the River Seine to the world capital of revolution, revealing a city of haves and have nots in an era of the Salon, theatre and chocolate, which famously and bloodily divided a nation. She talks to top fashion designer, Christian Lacroix, about his inspiration from the past and joins a demonstration where she meets a controversial rap band. She also visits the eerie Catacombs, where human bones are stacked high, and the beautiful Basilica of Saint Denis in search of the remains of the victims of the revolution – a revolution that set Paris on course to becoming the world's first truly modern city.


Part 3: Bohemian Rhapsody
In the last of this fascinating series, presenter and art historian Sandrine Voillet takes a look beyond the glittering surface of Paris at the underground worlds and movements that defined the city in the 20th Century. She meets the can-can girls at the Moulin Rouge and drinks absinthe at Pablo Picasso's favourite haunt. She also meets up with Olivier Picasso who tries to explain just what his grandfather's wives made of the way he painted them. Post-Liberation Paris saw a revival of the Quartier Latin – the medieval heart of the university – and Sandrine discusses Existentialism with students, makes a nouvelle vague film, talks pop music with Jane Birkin, and visits the setting of the May '68 Revolution.

On August 15th, 2004, a 16-year-old girl was hanged in a public square in Neka, Iran, a small industrial town by the Caspian Sea. Her death sentence was for crimes against chastity. Her name was Atefah Sahaaleh.

The only evidence against Atefah was her own forced confession. Atefah railed against her judge in court for its unfairness, but this was her undoing. Judge Haji Rezai, who was also the local mullah, prosecutor and head of the city administration, personally obtained permission from Iran's Supreme Court to execute her, and put the noose around her neck himself before she was hoisted on a crane jib arm to her death.

Using undercover footage, eyewitness accounts and drama recontruction, this film tells an unforgettable story of the life and tragic death of an ordinary teenage girl under Iran's mullahs.

over the few pools of water while predators prowl. At its heart it plunges over
Victoria Falls and into wild ravines before draining into the Indian Ocean, where
storm clouds cycle the water back into the heart of Africa.

Every parent agonises over the choices they make for their children but it is even more difficult when you have to decide on the fate of one of your child's senses, when they are too young to make a decision for themselves.

trebled, and as Britons get bigger, moving the super-obese to and from hospital has become a
challenge as traumatic for patients as it is dangerous for health staff.

But a new type of patient has led to a new kind of ambulance on Britain's streets, one that can
shift people who weigh up to 70 stone - the bariatric, or 'supersize', ambulance.

This documentary follows Thames Ambulance's bariatric service, one of the busiest in the UK, as
it takes us into the lives of its patients, giving a unique and contemporary insight into
Britain's 'Big Society', and its impact on individual lives and public services.

At the British Museum, a collection of artefacts from the Muslim world is on show
which tells the history of a journey to Mecca always forbidden to non-Muslims. It
features a succession of examples of the rich visual language of Islamic culture past
and present, artwork created to reflect the powerful experience for any Muslim making
the Hajj pilgrimage to Islam's most sacred city and its most sacred building, the
Ka'aba. However, an artform not usually associated with Islam is also on show, a form
many believe is prohibited by Islam - portraits, depictions of human figures and
whole tableaux showing pilgrims performing the most important pillar of the Muslim
faith.

In this documentary, Rageh Omaar sets out to find out that if human depiction is the
source of such controversy, how is it that the art displayed here shows a tradition
of figurative art at the heart of Islam for century after century? He explores what
forms of art are acceptable for a Muslim - and why this artistic tradition has
thrived - in the hidden art of the muslim world.

Richard is one of an increasing number of victims of cyberbullies and internet trolls who
use fake identities on social networking sites to torment, harass and abuse. They even
target the tribute sites of young people who have committed suicide, posting vile comments
and images with devastating consequences for the victims' families.
